Brian Mbeumo delighted to follow in Ronaldo's footsteps at 'biggest club' Manchester United

Brian Mbeumo started his football career wearing a Manchester United shirt with Cristiano Ronaldo's name on the back and is thrilled to be following in the legendary player's footsteps at the “greatest club in the world”.

After seven weeks of intense negotiations between the teams, the 25-year-old striker completed his move from Brentford on Monday for a reported £65million, with potential add-ons of £6million.

Mbeumo has signed a contract until 2030 with an option to extend for an additional season with the club, which he calls his “dream club” as he dreamed of it as a child growing up in France.

“From the very beginning, I wanted to be part of this club, this great club, and now I’m here and I’m just incredibly happy,” the Cameroonian footballer shared with the club’s media.

“For me it's the biggest club in the world, including in England. The fans there are just amazing, the stadium is impressive and I think every player dreams of playing here.”

“I think the first shirt I got was a Manchester United shirt with Ronaldo on the back. It's such a great club and yeah, I'm really happy to be here.”

Mbeumo admits he looked up to Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as a child, as well as Neymar and Eden Hazard, and now joins Matheus Cunha to strengthen United's attacking line.

The striker said the Brazilian would “bring something new” to the team, who he is looking forward to meeting when they head to the United States for a pre-season tour on Tuesday.

“It's very important for me to move to a new club,” Mbeumo said. “I think it's important to establish connections and work on the interaction with my teammates as quickly as possible, both on and off the pitch.”

“Team spirit is of great importance. Yes, creating a group and integrating into it as quickly as possible is very important to me.”
