Twitter on Fire as Communication Watchdog Starts Blocking Telegram in Russia

“Roskomnadzor has taken the decision of the Tagansky district court to restrict access to Internet resources of telegram messenger the LIMITED LIABILITY PARTNERSHIP the dissemination of information by the organizer in the Russian Federation. The lock must be in within 24 hours. Roskomnadzor also intends to send requests in the AppStore and Google Play to uninstall apps.

The announcement comes days after a Moscow district court official of the Russian communications watchdog Roskomnadzor, to immediately block the telegram to Russia, without waiting for the appeal to be considered. The court found that the telegram will remain blocked in the country yet does not provide encryption keys to the Russian authorities.

In turn, General Director of the messenger, Pavel Durov said telegram is the use of built-in methods of bypassing a lock that does not require user intervention.
He also said that regardless of the blocking, the telegram will still be able to send messages to all Russian users, informing them of the situation.

The court’s decision followed a lawsuit against the telegram that was proposed by the Russian Federal security service (FSB), who had previously asked Durov telegram to provide the Agency with the encryption keys in order to prevent terrorist acts in Russia since the messenger is widely used by terrorists.

The company was given 15 days before the beginning of April to match, but in the end he refused to give FSB encryption keys.
