Search for Madeleine McCann to continue in Portugal

The search for Madeleine McCann will resume in Portugal, close to where she was last seen in 2007.

A new phase of the search began on Tuesday, with teams clearing a well and removing overgrowth around abandoned buildings a few miles from Praia da Luz.

Madeleine, who was three years old at the time, went missing during a family holiday in the Algarve resort when her parents left her sleeping in a room with her younger twin siblings to go out for dinner.

Search operations on Tuesday involved German investigators, Portuguese police and firefighters. Teams used trimmers, shovels and chainsaws to clear brush and debris around the abandoned building and drained a well with a yellow hose.

About a dozen officers concentrated on one abandoned structure where excavation was taking place, while another member of the search party cleared large rocks.
