Russian dictator Vladimir Putin said at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in China that the agreements reached in Alaska with US President Donald Trump “open the way to peace in Ukraine.” At the same time, he repeated the Kremlin's traditional arguments about the “causes of the conflict,” placing responsibility on the West and political changes in Ukraine.
Putin claims that the “crisis in Ukraine” was provoked “not as a result of an attack,” but because of a “coup d'état” that took place in 2014 and, according to him, was supported by the West, as well as attempts to forcibly “suppress regions that did not accept the change of government.”
In his opinion, another factor is the alleged “constant aspirations of the West to integrate Ukraine into NATO,” which supposedly poses a threat to Russia's security.
“The root causes of the crisis in Ukraine must be eliminated and the balance in the security sphere must be restored,” he added.
The Kremlin leader stressed that Russia appreciates the efforts of China, India and other strategic partners “in helping to resolve the crisis.” According to him, the results of the recent Russian-American meeting in Alaska could be “a step towards peace in Ukraine.”
Recall that at the SCO summit, special attention was drawn to the appearance of Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, who arrived in China for an “unprecedented” four-day visit. During the official reception, Xi Jinping shook hands with the Russian dictator with both hands, which he did not do with other leaders, and had a noticeably longer conversation with him. The Kremlin announced the possible signing of important agreements during this visit. Putin will also take part in a parade in Beijing on the occasion of the anniversary of the end of World War II.
At the large-scale SCO summit in Tianjin, China will loudly declare its own vision of a new world order. And then it will hold a grand military parade, demonstrating its military power. But China is not preparing for global domination with weapons alone. Its strategy is much more cunning.
