Brazilian police say they have foiled an attempt to detonate a bomb at a Lady Gaga concert in Rio de Janeiro.
The event on Saturday was the most spectacular show of her career, attracting about two million fans to Copacabana Beach.
Rio de Janeiro state police said they worked with the Justice Department to prevent the attack, which was believed to have been planned by a group promoting hate speech against the LGBTQ community.
Police said the group intended to radicalize and recruit teenagers to carry out attacks using Molotov cocktails and improvised explosive devices.
“The plan was seen as a 'collective challenge' to attract attention on social media,” police said.
Authorities said they had arrested two people in connection with the plot to attack – the alleged leader of the group on weapons charges in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul and a teenager on child pornography charges in Rio.
Police raided the homes of 15 suspects in several Brazilian states and seized phones and other electronic devices, authorities said.
