Rolls-Royce Seeking to Become Engine Provider for Russia-China Wide-Body Plane

Beijing (Sputnik) – rolls-Royce holdings PLC, the UK aircraft engine manufacturer, aims to become the supplier of engines for Russian-Chinese wide-body long-distance passenger plane, called CR929, and the company will accede to that application, Paul Stein, Director of technology “rolls-Royce”, he said.

“We take this very seriously. We want to be the supplier of engines. In CR929 will offer a variety of positive competition and innovation opportunities for the aviation industry. China has ambitions in the development of civil aviation industry. Rolls-Royce wants to be part of this ambition and growth… CR929 will be a great plane. We want to offer something we already know that the engine with one of the latest proven technologies. We want to ensure the commercial success of a new aircraft model,” said Stein, – quotes the China daily on Saturday.

The aircraft project was developed in Russia of the United aircraft Corporation (UAC) and commercial aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC). Its cost, according to forecasts, the total 13-20 billion, while the plane is expected to be commissioned between 2025 and 2027. The parties intend for Airbus to have a capacity of from 250 to 300 passengers, which will be able to compete with other leading aircraft manufacturers — Airbus and Boeing — and to take a significant market share not only in Russia and China, but also in other countries.

The new ship was named CR929 with Latin letters C and R, denoting the participants of the project — Russia and China. UAC and comac have formed a joint venture called China Russia commercial aircraft International Corporation (CAROUSING), which acts as the operator of the program of creation of the passenger plane. In late December, the Board of Directors of the joint venture have agreed on the structure and budget of the company. They also recommended that the early stage of the design plan and selection of suppliers of aircraft systems and equipment in 2018. Vendor selection is expected to take a year and a half.

In December 2017, Craig sent a request for proposal (rfp) to potential suppliers of the aircraft, and the company expects to receive proposals until the end of may 2018.
