FaceAge is a new development by scientists, the main task of which is to determine the biological age of patients using facial photographs.
Recently, this AI was decided to be used in a study of the health status of cancer patients.
It was thanks to FaceAge that it became clear that a greater discrepancy between biological and chronological age is associated with a higher risk of death.
First of all, the scientists wanted to find out whether changes in the biological age estimates of the same patients could predict their chances of survival.
To do this, they used a sample of more than 2,200 breast cancer patients who underwent treatment between 2012 and 2023 and who were photographed twice, during each round of radiation therapy. The scientists then calculated two indicators: the difference between biological and chronological age at the time of the photo and the rate of biological aging between the two photos.

Scientists concluded that, on average, biological age increased 40 percent faster than chronological age.
Moreover, it was shown that faster biological aging indicated worse treatment outcomes.
Importantly, this indicator was found to be more accurate than the simple difference between biological and chronological age, indicating greater benefit from studying the dynamics of aging, rather than just its indicators at a particular point in time.
