
Former Olympiacos and Greece national team player Paraskevas Antsas has died at the age of 49 after a long battle with a terrible disease – ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), reports gazzetta.gr. The beautiful wife of legendary Greek footballer Traianos Dellas passed away the day before.

Former defender Antsas spent his last days in the intensive care unit of the hospital in his hometown of Drama, where doctors fought for his life (ALS is a degenerative neurological disease that causes progressive muscle paralysis).
Antsas was one of the leaders of Olympiacos, with whom he won seven Greek championship titles and three national cups, and also regularly appeared in the Champions League.

The centre-back joined the Piraeus club in 1998 after a successful spell with Xanthi, helping the club win five consecutive championships. He unexpectedly ended his career in 2003 for family reasons, but later returned to football and re-signed with Olympiacos in 2007, winning two more Greek championships.
In total, Antzas played around 200 matches for the Piraeus club, including 25 games in the Champions League. He played 26 matches for the Greek national team and participated in Euro 2008.
