Over 600,000 Ukrainians can receive 6,500 hryvnias each: who can receive assistance for the winter and why

Ukrainians continue to receive various amounts of various assistance on the eve of winter, and it may happen that about 660 thousand Ukrainians will receive 6,500 hryvnias for the winter. At least, this may happen if the relevant document is adopted.

Yes, we are talking about a draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers on the “Warm Winter” program, which is under discussion until October 17. The document provides for the payment of 6,500 hryvnias to a number of categories of socially vulnerable Ukrainians to make the winter period of 2025−2026 easier.

In particular, these are the following categories:

  • recipients of benefits for children under guardianship or care — 40,900 children (total amount of funds for payment of one-time cash benefits — UAH 265.8 million);
  • recipients of state social assistance for orphans and children deprived of parental care, including those with disabilities, who are in family-type orphanages and in foster families – 1,000 children with disabilities (total amount of funds for payment of one-time cash assistance – UAH 6.5 million);
  • recipients of housing assistance for internally displaced persons — 12,800 people with group I disabilities and 252,898 children (total amount of funds for the payment of one-time assistance — UAH 1.727 billion);
  • recipients of state social assistance to low-income families — 335,863 children (total amount of funds for payment of one-time cash assistance — 2 billion 183 million UAH);
  • single pensioners receiving a care allowance — 17,500 people (total amount of funds for the payment of one-time assistance — UAH 113.75 million).

It is assumed that the one-time assistance funds will be credited to a current account with a special use mode or to a virtual payment card “Diya.Karta” and will be available for use within 180 calendar days from the date of crediting to the recipient.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has extended the deadline for submitting applications for basic social assistance.
