New Manchester United signing Benjamin Cesco hopes to emulate his idol Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Manchester United's new signing Benjamin Seshko is hoping to emulate the achievements of his idol Zlatan Ibrahimovic by appearing in the club's iconic shirt.

The Slovenia international completed his £73.7m move from RB Leipzig to Old Trafford at the weekend.

In his first interview with MUTV, the 22-year-old admitted his idol was former United striker Ibrahimovic, who spent almost two years at Old Trafford until 2018.

Sesco noted: “I've been following him since I was a kid. Every YouTube video I can find because he's just incredible to me.

“We have different characters, but I like to watch how he plays, how he enjoys football and how everything works.

“I dreamed of meeting him one day, it would be wonderful, so overall he became my idol.

“We have different styles of play, but if there are any situations, I try to do the same as him.”

Seshko, who has made 41 appearances for his country's senior team, scored 21 goals in all competitions for Leipzig last season.

He also admitted that he admires fellow former United strikers Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney.

“Van Persie and Rooney, all those guys,” Cesko noted. “I watched their videos, of course. They were great.

“You can admire them and I will also try to show myself in the best light here and help the team and the club rise as high as possible.”

United endured their worst top-flight season in 51 years, finishing 15th in the Premier League table last term, but Seshko is confident of brighter times ahead.

Head coach Ruben Amorim's attacking options have also been boosted by the summer arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
