Joe Root reached a historic century, Ben Stokes became the fourth Englishman to score a hundred and hit five in a Test match, but Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sunday combined to hand India a tough draw… How do we rate them and the other two teams?
Pictured: England's Joe Root hit his 38th hundred in the fourth Test, moving him into second place among all-time top scorers.
The England-India Test series is heading to a decider at The Oval with the hosts leading 2-1. Shubman Gill's side held on for a draw on the final day of the fourth Test at Old Trafford despite Joe Root's historic hundred and another outstanding performance from Ben Stokes, who was named man of the match. Here's how we rated the players from both teams…
England Player Ratings
Zach Crowley – 8
Batting: 84
England's huge first-innings lead of 311 and Old Trafford's record Test total of 669 was largely down to Joe Root's historic 150 and Ben Stokes' 141 (more on them later), but the contributions of openers Crawley and Ben Duckett should not be underestimated.
On the second evening, the pair put on 166 for the first wicket, a performance made all the more impressive by the fact that it came so soon after England had bowled all over the pitch earlier in the day.
England's Zak Crawley has commented on his performance on day two against India, saying he needs to trust his instincts and expressed satisfaction with his performance.
Crawley loves the ground (he scored 189 here for Australia two years ago) and has made it clear why England are keen to see him as a key player on the winter Ashes tour.

Ben Duckett – 8
Batting: 94
Duckett's return to form after a couple of poor Test matches at Edgbaston and Lord's was followed by his match-winning 149 at Headingley to open the series.
Both he and Crowley deserved to make hundreds, and Duckett was particularly frustrated at not getting there after a fairly innocuous short and wide delivery from Anshul Kamboj left him six short of his hundred.
Hearts sank when England's Ben Duckett nearly dropped his bat on the stumps early in his innings.
