The 35-year-old's return has strengthened England's batting credentials – he has 18 first-class hundreds and more than 370 wickets to his name – while he is also a stronger fielder than Bashir.

The Leicestershire man has made significant progress since his promotion this term, scoring four hundreds and a fifty in nine games to take his total to 641 runs at an average of 45.78.
