League of Ireland: Shamrock Rovers maintain nine-point lead after win over Cork City

Shamrock Rovers held on to their nine-point lead at the top of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division on Friday night.

The Hoops recorded a 4-1 win over Cork City at Tallaght Stadium.

Michael Noonan scored twice, including a sixth-minute strike, and was supported by Roberto Lopez and Rory Gaffney.

Alex Noonan pulled one back for Cork City in the 69th minute.

In the other match, Waterford beat Bohemians by one goal.

Two goals in quick succession late in the first half sealed the victory, with Patrick Amond converting a penalty and Coonan Noonan adding another just minutes later.

Dawson Devoy pulled one back for Bohs in the 71st minute but the match ended 2-1 to Waterford.

Drogheda United secured victory over Sligo Rovers with a third-minute goal from Douglas James-Taylor proving decisive.

Galway United achieved an impressive 3-1 victory over St Patrick's Athletic.

Edward McCarthy opened the scoring in the second minute and was followed up in the first half by David Hurley and Robert Slevin.

St Patrick's only goal was scored by Simon Power.

Derry City's Michael Duffy scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Shelbourne.
