Israel Launches Intensive Airstrikes on Tehran

Israeli airstrikes on the Iranian capital have been the heaviest hit in the conflict, according to a rights group, killing at least 585 people across Iran and injuring 1,326.

Washington-based Human Rights Activists said it had identified 239 of those killed in Israeli attacks as civilians and 126 as security personnel.

The group, which also provided detailed casualty figures from the 2022 protests surrounding the death of Mahsa Amini, cross-checks local reports in the Islamic Republic with a network of sources it has established in the country.

Iran does not regularly release death toll figures from the conflict and has minimized its losses in the past.

According to the latest information released on Monday, the death toll stood at 224 and the number of injured at 1,277.

Uncertainty gripped the region and residents of Tehran fled their homes en masse on the sixth day of Israel's air campaign focused on Iran's military and nuclear program.

Israel confirmed its strikes Wednesday morning in Tehran, saying more than 50 fighter jets were involved in the operation. The Israelis claimed to have targeted a centrifuge plant.

The Israeli government says it has launched a campaign of air strikes to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
