Israel warns 'Tehran will burn' if Iran continues missile launches

Israel's defense minister said “Tehran will burn” if Iran continues to fire missiles at Israel, after at least three people were killed and dozens wounded in a series of Israeli attacks on Tehran's nuclear program and military forces.

Speaking after a meeting with the army's commander-in-chief, Israel Katz noted that Iran will pay a high price for harming Israeli citizens.

“If (Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali) Khamenei continues to attack the Israeli rear with missiles, Tehran will burn,” he added.

Iranian state television reported that air defense systems opened fire on the cities of Khorramabad, Kermanshah and Tabriz, in what could signal a new attack by Israel.

Footage from Tabriz showed black smoke rising over the city, according to video posted by Iranian state television.

Israeli attack planes and drones were deployed in advance to strike key targets and kill high-profile generals and scientists, officials said.

On Saturday, the Israeli army said it had killed nine leading scientists and experts linked to Iran's nuclear project.

Iran's ambassador to the UN said the attacks killed 78 people and injured more than 320.

In response, Iran launched waves of drones and ballistic missiles at Israel, with explosions lighting up the night sky over Jerusalem and Tel Aviv and shaking buildings below.

The Israeli military has called on citizens already shaken by 20 months of war in Gaza, which began with a Hamas attack in October 2023, to spend a few hours in shelter.

Israel and Iran have confirmed that their attacks will continue, raising the prospect of a protracted conflict in the Middle East.

An Israeli drone attacked an oil refinery in Iran's South Pars gas field on Saturday, semi-official Iranian news agencies reported.

If this information is confirmed, it would be the first Israeli attack on the Iranian oil and gas industry.

Israel did not immediately acknowledge the attack on the field, but air defense systems have been installed around such facilities, which Israel has been attacking since Friday.

Fars and Tasnim news agencies reported the strike, saying it occurred in the 14th phase of the field.
