The “ Wrocław Drone Valley ” project, established by local governments, universities and business representatives, assumes cooperation in the development of drone technologies and the use of unmanned aerial vehicles in transport, security and education.
An agreement on joint action aimed at developing drone technologies and the wide use of drones in Wrocław and the region was signed on Friday by representatives of the Wrocław authorities, the provincial government, the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, the Military University of Land Forces in Wrocław, the Wrocław-based Łukasiewicz – PORT Institute (Polish Centre for Technology Development) and the Lower Silesian Chamber of Commerce.
The Deputy Mayor of Wrocław, Michał Młyńczak, emphasised that the project “Wrocław Drone Valley” will strengthen the economy of the capital of Lower Silesia based on knowledge and security. “The combination of the world of science, the military, local governments at various levels will allow for the creation of a security system from scratch – from education, through production, testing of new solutions and implementation,” said Młyńczak, also emphasising the role of business in this process.

The Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Paweł Gancarz, emphasized that the provincial government already supports the use of drones in the area of security. “This includes training in drone technology conducted for volunteer firefighters. We also hope that drone training will become a permanent part of Lower Silesian schools,” said Gancarz.
In Wrocław, drones are used to monitor air quality, monitor rivers, and conduct rescue operations. “We hope that in the near future drones will be used in the city, for example, for medical transport of medicines or medical devices,” indicated city councilor Ewa Wolak (KO).
Prof. Dariusz Łydżba, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, recalled that the Wrocław university has been conducting advanced research on unmanned vehicles for years. “They focus in particular on autonomous control, modern materials and technologies used in their construction,” said the professor.
The scientist emphasized that the “Wrocław Drone Valley” can be a platform for cooperation that will accelerate the commercialization of the developed solutions. “For us, testing drones in urban conditions is key,” said the professor.
The Rector of the Land Forces Academy, retired Lieutenant General Dr. Marek Tomaszycki, pointed out that drones are the basis of the modern battlefield. “For years, we have been conducting research and development work related to drones, not only air drones, but also land, water and underwater ones,” said the Rector. General Tomaszycki also expressed hope that the “Wrocławska Dolny Dronów” will also conduct research related to the development of technologies to combat enemy drones. (PAP)
