There is currently no regulation that obliges users to verify their age in order to log in to websites, the Ministry of Digitization announced on Friday, denying information that has appeared in the media in recent days.
In recent days, many media in Poland have reported that from July 1, EU residents will have to use a new age verification application to access selected websites.
The Ministry of Digital Affairs responded to this information on Friday. “There is currently no provision in the European legal system that obliges users of internet services to verify their age in order to log into various platforms. In Poland, there is also no legal basis for requiring age verification,” the ministry reported.

It was explained that the European Commission is working on making technology available to Member States to enable anonymous age verification – from July this will be a temporary and non-mandatory solution.
“Ultimately, this type of technology will be included in the European digital identity wallet. It will not be mandatory for users,” MC emphasized.
As indicated, the work of the Ministry of Digital Affairs and the Central Information Technology Centre “focuses on implementing the current roadmap for the development of the mObywatel application and the European digital identity wallet”.
” The mObywatel application already allows for age verification by enabling the transfer of data to institutions integrated with it (backsystem) from mDowodu , which only contains information on the confirmation of age, without transferring any user data – this solution is to be the basis for the implementation of the European digital identity wallet (in accordance with eIDAS 2)” – it was written in the press release.
On Tuesday, EC spokesman Thomas Reignier told PAP that “the pilot version will consist of testing the software in the member states. So far, five countries have signed up for the program: France, Spain, Italy, Denmark and Greece.” (PAP)
