Iraqi Lawmaker Suggests US-Led Strike May Enhance Position of Assad

Moscow (Sputnik) – the attack on France, the UK and the US on Syria is unlikely to have any negative impact on the unity of the middle Eastern country, on the contrary, it may strengthen the position of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Abdulbari Zebari, Chairman of the Iraqi Parliament Committee on foreign Affairs, told Sputnik.

Early Saturday morning, the U.S. held a joint strike with France and the United Kingdom on the Syrian objects that are Western allies consider related to the proposed program of chemical weapons Damascus.

“As it was a very limited military attack, I don’t think it will have much effect, if any, concerning the unity of Syria. I believe that this could strengthen the role of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad,” – said Zebari.
