‘My conclusion is their dream’: former President Lula to the Supreme Court’s decision

Mexico city (Sputnik) – Brazilian Supreme Court judge Edson Fachin rejected the appeal to overturn the decision on detention eks-the President of Brazil, Luiz inácio Lula da Silva over corruption conviction, broadcaster Globo reported.

Former President of Brazil, Luiz inácio Lula da Silva assured his supporters that he wanted to surrender to the police but declared his innocence and claimed that his conviction of corruption, saying it was just a way for enemies to make sure that it doesn’t work, and maybe to win Brazil re-election in October.

“Their dream is that I will not be a candidate (for the presidency). My other prison. I imagine Veja (Brazilian paper) load. They will have multiple orgasms,” Lula posted on his Twitter page.

The court of appeal upheld the decision in January and increased the prison sentence Lula to 12 years and a month. This week the Supreme Court voted six to five to order him in jail for many months before the presidential elections scheduled for October.

On Thursday, Federal judge Sergio Moro has issued a warrant for the arrest of Lula and an ultimatum, saying that he must surrender to the police at 05:00 local time (20:00 GMT) on Friday to start serving a 12-year prison term.

Lula will not surrender voluntarily to the police ahead of time and spent Friday night in the building on the Metalworkers Union, which, according to media reports, was surrounded by thousands of his supporters, broadcaster Globo reported.

Meanwhile, Brazilian police said that the arrest of Lula was impossible under such conditions of security and postponed it.

Lula, who served as President from 2003 to 2010, was sentenced last summer to 9.5 years of imprisonment on charges of receiving a luxury apartment from a construction firm in exchange for political favors. Lula has rejected the accusation.

While Lula is one of the most popular candidates according to the polls, he can’t run for President in the upcoming elections.
