Chelsea have completed the £37million transfer of Netherlands defender Jorrel Hato from Ajax.
The 19-year-old, who has made six appearances for the national team, has signed a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
He became the eighth player signed by the Blues in the current summer transfer window.
“I'm very happy and delighted to be here,” Hato, who can play at centre-back or left-back, told the Premier League club's website.
“I've been thinking a lot about my future and I wanted to take the next step in my career. Chelsea is the best place to do that, so I'm really excited.”
Hato joined the Ajax academy from his hometown club Sparta Rotterdam in 2018 and signed his first professional contract four years later at the age of 16.
He scored four goals in 111 appearances for the Eredivisie side, and made his international debut in November 2023, coming on as a substitute in a 6–0 win against Gibraltar.
Club World Champions Chelsea begin the new top-flight season on Sunday, August 17, with a home game against London's Crystal Palace.
