While Ukraine is forecasting a 10-30% increase in food prices due to electricity problems, a number of other goods will become more expensive in early 2026. The reason for this is excise taxes that are planned to be introduced on fuel, cigarettes, and sugary drinks.

This was announced on the air of “We Ukraine” by a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, People's Deputy Oleksiy Leonov . According to him, this should bring an increase in revenues to the state budget by at least 23 billion, but will also lead to an increase in prices for these goods.
Thus, the 5% increase in excise duty is part of Ukraine's obligations to increase excise duties to bring them into line with European standards. For comparison: this year's increase in excise duty has already caused the price of cigarettes to increase by approximately 30%, or 20-25 hryvnias per pack.
The excise tax on fuel, according to the politician, will rise by 10-17% and will give the state budget about UAH 15 billion, and fuel can add UAH 1-2 per liter to the price. However, according to the politician, this figure was calculated by experts and includes many other factors – exchange rates, oil prices, etc.

The new excise tax on sweet drinks, notes Oleksiy Leonov, should bring about UAH 8 billion in additional revenue to the treasury. At the same time, as “FACTY” reported, the introduction of the new excise tax may lead to an increase in prices for “sparkling” by approximately UAH 5-6 per liter.
