The death toll from a Dominican Republic nightclub roof collapse has risen to 124 as authorities continue to identify the victims.
More than 255 people were injured when concrete structures fell at the Jet Set club in the capital Santo Domingo, which was packed with musicians, professional athletes and government workers, when the roof collapsed during a concert in the early hours of Tuesday.
Among the dead was merengue star Rubby Perez, who had been performing for the crowd before the tragic incident, said emergency director Juan Manuel Mendez.
Rescue teams continue to search for possible survivors, although more than a day has passed since the incident.
“We will continue to search tirelessly for people,” Mr Mendez said.
Late Tuesday night, people still searching for their loved ones gathered around a guitarist playing outside the club and began singing hymns.
So far, only 54 people have been identified among the victims of one of the worst disasters in the Dominican Republic.
Local media reported that the victims included a cardiologist, a government architect, a retired police officer and the brother of a deputy youth minister.
Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher Octavio Dotel and Dominican player Tony Enrique Blanco Cabrera were also among the dead, according to Satosky Terrero, a spokesman for the country's Professional Baseball League.
