Potato prices will drop significantly in Ukraine in October (although not for long). What can we expect from the food market as a whole, are Ukrainians threatened with a food crisis?

This was stated by Deputy Minister for Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture Taras Vysotsky in a comment to Radio Kolos.
According to him, in 2025, Ukraine's agricultural sector will harvest about 56 million tons of grain crops and another 21 million tons of oilseeds. According to the government official, the harvest of early grains is forecast at 26 million tons, which is slightly less than last year. The main reason for the drop was the drought in the southeast of the country, which negatively affected the yield of winter wheat and barley.
A rather controversial situation has developed with corn. In the southern regions, part of the crops was actually destroyed due to adverse conditions. In contrast, the north and west of Ukraine demonstrated a high result: in Sumy, Chernihiv, Poltava, and Kyiv regions, precipitation and temperature conditions contributed to the development of plants. As a result, about 28 million tons of corn are expected, which even exceeds last year's figures. And corn is, as is known, also a feed for livestock and poultry farming. Therefore, cheaper corn can contribute to the reduction of the cost of meat and dairy products.

The forecast for oilseeds remains unchanged compared to 2024 – about 21 million tons. At the same time, there is a trend towards an increase in sunflower harvest and a decrease in soybean production.
Horticulture suffered the greatest losses. Due to the long spring and frosts, part of the fruit harvest did not survive. This especially applies to early varieties of apples and pears. At the same time, late varieties have a chance to reach last year's level.
It is expected that apple prices will start to fall from September, as the new harvest arrives on the market. By the end of October, prices should stabilize.

Vegetables, according to forecasts, will remain available to consumers, but farmers will receive an economically advantageous price for their sales.
We also recall that farmers predict a significant increase in the price of sunflower oil. In addition, due to small stocks, the price of sugar may rise, and due to the increase in the price of electricity, the price of bread.
