Due to a cyberattack, the security of data of some customers, employees, contractors and business partners of the Smyk Group was breached, the company told PAP. Most of the stolen information were files related to clothing production, including graphic designs.

The attack by cybercriminals, involving the use of malicious encryption software (ransomware) against some of the Smyk Group's IT systems, took place on March 17, 2025, the company announced.

The findings of external cybersecurity experts confirmed that some data had been breached, including customers served in the returns and complaints process, employees, contractors and business partners, Smyk said in a statement sent to PAP. “The initial results of the analysis of the course and scope of the incident do not confirm that the subject of the breach was our customers' data other than the one indicated above,” the company emphasized.

She added that a significant portion of the information stolen in the cyberattack were files related to clothing production, including graphic designs.

As you can read on the Group's website – thanks to the “immediate” actions taken, the scale of the incident was limited. “The breach does not concern current orders, and all systems are currently operating without disruption,” she emphasized.

Smyk indicated that it is still conducting explanatory activities to confirm the details of the incident; the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO) and law enforcement agencies have been notified of the case. “The data administrator (of the company – PAP) reported a breach of personal data protection on March 18, 2025,” UODO spokesman Karol Witowski told PAP.

“We will notify all individuals whose relevant personal data has been compromised in accordance with legal requirements,” the company said.

Smyk is a Polish retail chain with products for children and young people up to 14 years of age. It includes 250 stationary stores in Poland, the online store smyk.com, about 40 stores in Romania and Ukraine – as indicated on the website. The company's own brand products – Cool Club and Smiki – are available in 160 stationary stores and 20 online stores, belonging to Smyk's trading partners, in 20 countries in Europe and Asia.
