Ohio House OKs push for medal honoring John and Annie Glenn

The proposal aimed at getting the late astronaut John Glenn and his wife, Annie, medal of the U.S. Congress has cleared its first major legislative barrier in their home state of Ohio.

The state house unanimously approved a resolution Wednesday urging Congress to recognize Glenn and his widow the congressional gold medal.

The resolution States that the honor is justified because Glenns inspired a generation of Americans returned to the country through public service and “made our country better.”

John Glenn died in 2016 at the age of 95 years. He was the first American to orbit the Earth, a longtime democratic U.S. Senator and founder of the public Affairs College, the Ohio state University.

Annie Glenn, 98, overcame a debilitating stutter to become a leading advocate for Americans with communication disorders.
