Hermann Goering's former residence up for sale. “A unique gem”

Hermann Goering's former summer residence on the North Sea island of Sylt is up for sale. The exact price is top secret, but it is estimated at around 15 million euros. Goering was “Hitler's deputy, head of the Luftwaffe, one of the worst war criminals,” writes the newspaper “Bild.”

The “Min Luetten” house is a thatched house that stands directly on the dunes of Wenningstedt on Sylt. “Idyllic with an unobstructed view of the North Sea. And with a dark past,” notes the “Bilda” portal. “After extensive renovation, the house built in 1937 is now listed in the Sotheby's real estate catalog,” it adds.

The residence is a “special gem,” as the Sotheby's catalog describes it. The 200-square-meter property has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. The huge plot measures 7,755 square meters.

Goering moved into the house on Sylt in the summer of 1937. His wife Emmy, an actress, commissioned the construction of the house in the mid-1930s from Munich architect Otto Heilmann, the portal reports.

After the war, the house changed hands several times. In 1958, it was bought, as “Bild” writes, by the “sandal dynasty” Birkenstock for 60,000 marks.

In 2019, the Birkenstock heirs “decided with a heavy heart to sell the house. The price at the time: 12 million euros,” writes “Bild.” Over the past four years, “Min Luetten” has been extensively renovated. Sotheby's emphasizes that the house is listed as a historical monument and has enormous cultural and historical significance.

After the end of World War II, Goering was sentenced to death for war crimes by the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg; he poisoned himself on the eve of his execution.
