Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala's account on the X service fell victim to hackers on Tuesday and false entries appeared on it, government spokeswoman Lucie Michut Jeszatkova said. One of the entries concerned an alleged attack by Russian forces on “Czech troops near the border” of the Königsberg region.
As reported by the spokeswoman, Fiala's account was attacked in the morning despite the security measures taken. One of the fake posts, posted before 6 a.m., concerned an alleged attack by Russian forces “on Czech troops near the border with Kaliningrad (Königsberg region – PAP)”. Michut Jeszatkova denied this information. She added that the incident was being analyzed.
Two other false posts – published in Czech and English, without visible errors – referred to sanctions allegedly being prepared in response to US tariffs. Several dozen minutes after publication, the posts disappeared.
According to the CTK agency, what was unusual compared to other posts on the prime minister's account was that the fake messages contained video material. However, when launched, only a still image appeared without sound.
In 2023, hackers attacked the websites of the Prime Minister's Office, as well as portals of other state institutions. A year later, hackers targeted the websites of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.
