Under the 2005 act Real ID, the Department of homeland security may waive a variety of environmental laws, which would otherwise slow down or stop construction in the sensitive region. This means that laws, like the Law about endangered species, clean water act, the law On the national environmental strategy, the contract or act on Migratory birds could not be caused in the border walls.
Several parcels of protected land in South Texas, including the national butterfly center, a state Park, and other areas in federated system of refuge wildlife, are threatened by the erection of walls. It could be years before construction in some of these areas, there is still a lot we don’t know about the full impact of barriers on biodiversity in the region.
