Whyte vs Browne: David Haye impressed by Dillian Whyte’s knockout victory

David Haye reacts to Dillian Whyte’s highlight reel knockout win over Lucas Browne

David Haye says he was “very impressed” after watching Dillian Whyte deliver a spectacular knockout win against Lucas Browne at London’s The O2.

Whyte, who now sits on the cusp of a world title shot against American Deontay Wilder, produced a career-best performance in stopping the formerly unbeaten Australian in the sixth round on Saturday night.

Haye, who will take centre stage himself in the London arena on May 5 against Tony Bellew, live on Sky Sports Box Office, was ringside for the bout and admitted afterwards that it was one of the best finishes to a fight he has ever seen.

“I though Dillian Whyte boxed beautifully and did exactly what he needed to do to get a spectacular knockout win,” he said.

“That’s a showreel knockout, it’s one of the best I’ve seen in many a many a moon.

“Browne is known for having a granite chin so for him to break him down and knock him out like that was very impressive.”

With all the plaudits going the way of Whyte, Haye also gave a disappointed assessment of Browne.

“I was saddened by the state Browne, who I hope is well, walked into the ring in. He had no timing, no rhythm, no pace or strategy whatsoever.

Dillian Whyte had a message for Deontay Wilder after his spectacular knockout victory over Lucas Browne

“It looked like he was trying to break Whyte’s hands on his face in the hope of getting a win.

“I watched his [Ruslan] Chagaev fight and he did pretty much the same thing, he got beat up for a few rounds and then the champion fell on the floor and Browne won the title.

“I was disappointed in his physical appearance, he showed he didn’t really put the time and dedication in.”
