We go to gyms, exercise on the machines, in aerobics classes, and in the pool, but why is it sometimes so difficult to achieve our goals and see results? There are several common mistakes that we can try to avoid.
1. Visiting the gym without a pre-planned workout.
Before you start working out, sketch out an exercise plan in advance. Think of it like construction: you can't build a house without planning. Only in this case, it's about building your beautiful body.
2. You don't have a backup training plan.
It's quite possible that the machine you want to use is already occupied by someone else. Don't stand there! Don't wait! This is where our backup plan comes in handy: substitute one exercise for another. For example, if the chest machine isn't available, do push-ups. Anyone else already doing leg presses? Try lunges. Your goal is to include a variety of exercises that work the same muscle group, yet can be used interchangeably.
3. Insufficient training intensity.
Unfortunately, recreational ping pong is often more intense than a gym-goer's workout. Training intensity is one of the most important factors in achieving fitness goals. If you're training in the 12-15 rep range, you should aim for 14-15 reps. If you can only do 20 reps of an exercise, you need to increase the weight of the equipment.
4. Resting too long.
If your goal is to lose excess fat and get slimmer, minimize rest between sets and exercise changes. 30-60 seconds, no more.
5. Not training with full range of motion.
If you're only doing a quarter-press on squats or not fully lowering or lifting the weight on bench presses, you're wasting your time. Exercises must be performed correctly and every rep completed. This will not only yield results in your workout but also help prevent injury.
6. Too much cardio.
Aerobic exercise is a necessary complement to strength training and proper nutrition. However, it shouldn't take up the majority of your time in the gym.
Be smart. Don't run as hard as you can on the treadmill. Yes, your heart rate will increase, but at the same time, your legs will be tired and you'll be exhausted.
7. You don't seek advice from professionals.
Why do professional athletes have coaches? Because they know they can only achieve their best results with the help and supervision of an experienced mentor. A professional trainer will help you create a training plan, show you how to use the equipment in the gym, explain exercise technique, advise on training intensity, how to combine strength and cardio exercises, and point out any mistakes you might make. Proper technique is another key factor in achieving your desired results.
There are only seven common mistakes, but how often they occur!
If you learn to notice these mistakes, learn to train according to a pre-planned plan, and focus entirely on the intensity of your training and exercise technique, then you will definitely be able to avoid disappointment and achieve your goal: becoming slimmer, stronger, and healthier.
