When he talks, everyone listens – Garry Ringrose admires Owen Farrell's leadership skills

Garry Ringrose has praised Owen Farrell's leadership in helping Britain and Ireland maintain their winning spirit ahead of the crucial second Test against Australia on Saturday.

The Lions emerged from a tough clash with the First Nations and Pacific XV on Tuesday with their 100 per cent record in Australia intact, but only after they had to fight back to win 24-19.

Farrell captained the Lions for the first time in his fourth round and made a name for himself by showing he was prepared to try and close out the series against the Wallabies at the Melbourne Cricket Ground if required.

For 64 minutes he interacted with Ringrose, who made a successful return from concussion and has also expressed a desire to play in a second Test match.

“It was actually great to play with Owen, who I've admired throughout my career, especially in a game like aerial combat,” Ringrose said.

“It was a tough transition from the first away Test and then the captaincy. He never missed an opportunity to show leadership and get the other players involved.

“When he speaks, everyone listens. His words are always precise and appropriate. I felt it too.

“And that's not even taking into account his rugby skills – he has the ability on the line and the physicality when needed.”
