Ahead of his first Premier League game, as confirmed Champions Manchester city could be handed the honor guard from Swansea – but should it? We look at the tradition and look at some famous examples from the past.
What is the honor guard?
The honor guard is when a person or group of people line up to congratulate the other(S) on achievement.
In fact, this is considered as a sign of respect, with the Premier League Champions to the usual recipients.
Is it mandatory?
It is not mandatory for any club to provide a guard of honor, if they face new Champions League, but this ceremony was pre-agreed between the two clubs. Players may not want, but they cannot be forced to do so by any authorities for football.

When did the tradition start?
Of honor, not only for the modern era, and occurred in 1955, when “Manchester United” provided for “Chelsea”.
United continued the tradition in 1991, they celebrated “the gunners” managed to win the League title, giving them a guard of honor at Highbury. “Arsenal” beat “Liverpool” in the title may have had something to do with it.

In Spain, there is trouble brewing on this issue. Head coach of real Madrid Zinedine Zidane insists that his side will not offer the runaway leaders of La Liga Barcelona a guard of honor before the El Clasico next month, if the Catalans Champions before.
Barcelona famously formed a guard of honor in may 2008 for newly-confirmed Champions real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.
However, they refused to repeat the act before their last meeting in La Liga on December 23, days after the Madrid lifted the FIFA Club World Cup.
What do they say?
Sky sports Gary Neville was pretty stupid, explaining how difficult it is to participate in the case, the reflection on the guard 2005, the honor in 2013.
