Young athlete Victoria Mboko prepares for her first appearance at the US Open, feeling nervous before her opening match.
Tennis' new rising star Victoria Mboko is aiming to emulate Emma Raducanu's achievement of winning the New York Open title as a teenager.
A year ago, Mboko was ranked 351 in the world, having just lost her debut match at the WTA 50 in Zagreb to Esther Merhi. But 12 months later, the Canadian became the WTA 1000 titleholder, wowing the crowd in Montreal with her impressive performance.
Ahead of her 19th birthday, Mboko became one of 12 players in the Open Era to defeat four Grand Slam title winners in a single tournament – Sofia Kenin, Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina and Naomi Osaka – to lift the biggest trophy of her career.

Highlights from the National Bank Open final between Mboko and Naomi Osaka
She repeated the achievement of Ons Jabeur and Elina Svitolina at Wimbledon 2023, becoming the second youngest participant in the Open era after Serena Williams (US Open 1999).
Her strong performance in front of a home crowd has lifted her to No.24 in the rankings and secured her seeding for the Flushing Meadows tournament, where she will face two-time champion Barbora Krejcikova on Monday – live on Sky Sports.
The athlete draws motivation from Raducanu's triumph in 2021 and the unexpected victory of 19-year-old Canadian Bianca Andreescu over Serena Williams in 2019.
