Shine this season Manchester city should not be overshadowed by recent results – but Tottenham style to defeat them as “Liverpool” and “Manchester United” did, says Jamie Redknapp…

Tottenham away Manchester city was not worse than the fixture this weekend given their recent setbacks.

These defeats from Liverpool and Manchester United will hurt them. We must not allow them to put a negative slant on what was a brilliant season for city. We can’t forget football they played, they won the Cup Teamsters and 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

But the team realized that they may have success getting then to Manchester city. “Liverpool” and “Manchester United” in the second half, Derby showed the way. Instead of doing what you managed Chelsea in the early season, to sit and die a slow death, you should attack them, press them and put them under pressure.

PEP Guardiola has made mistakes with his team selections in those last three defeats – of course, in the second leg against Liverpool I felt it was time to experience Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany, and three on the back was a mistake.

But they were already in a very difficult position from the first stage and you have to credit Liverpool for that. City could win the Champions League this season with a bit of luck in the draw. But Liverpool was on the wrong team at the wrong time for them.

Tottenham will take the same approach – and that’s why I think spurs will beat city at Wembley.

Spurs will press them, follow them, and they are really strengths. They have won seven of their last eight games and have a lot of confidence, seeing that the gap with Chelsea in the fifth to extend to 10 points.

They will take heart from recent results of the city, too, while their 4-1 defeat to city at the beginning of the season was not as comprehensive as the score line suggested.

The challenge for Guardiola to get his team motivated to finish the season on a high and get a really good feeling in the summer and the offseason.

As soon as the transfer window opens, I’m sure he will look to strengthen their defense. Virgil van Dijk was a great signing for Liverpool and I was surprised that the city is not to make more of an effort to get it. There’s a question mark over the future, but still, after he left for another big game against Liverpool. Maybe they need another type of striker, is another option.

If you look at the success of the city over the past few years, they had the possibility of variability in attack. I’m not saying they have to play long-ball football, but Edin Dzeko has always given them another dimension, someone you can play ball or legs or chest, and who can give you the purpose of the field crosses. They could do with this alternative when they need to be more direct against Liverpool on Tuesday.

There won’t be too many, though they want to change. Benjamin Mendy will be back after injuries and they still have so much talent on the squad. It’s always good to freshen up, although to find the right person at this level is not easy.

These thoughts will have to wait a few more weeks, as the city will have to find a way to get back on track this weekend.

They also have to find a way to keep Harry Kane, who seem so determined to catch Mohamed Salah in the race to be top scorer.

Tottenham forward Harry Kane exclusively in the “sky Sports” about his desire to claim the first prize of the Golden League download

Kane says that his goal from Christian Eriksen cross this week regained the memory of my days in Liverpool, when one of my goals-bound shots went with Robbie Fowler. I hit a shot from outside the penalty area and clipped his foot on the road.

The whole crowd started singing his name, because he was elected and gave to him! They’re all the same these strikers!

But we had to laugh about it then and I had no problems with it, even for a while. It is important to support the workers happy, and I am sure that Erickson was the same.

Fired up Kane is an asset to spurs – and can help them achieve great result this Saturday.
