Son Heung-min says he can finally be called a 'legend' after Europa League win

Tottenham captain Son Heung-min has revealed he can now be considered a 'legend' after achieving his dream of lifting the Europa League trophy with the team.

Brennan Johnson's clumsy 42nd-minute goal gave Tottenham a 1-0 win over Manchester United in San Mames.

The success gave Tottenham their first trophy in 17 years and ended Son's hopes of winning the cup after painful Champions League and League Cup final defeats in 10 seasons in north London.

The South Korean has previously claimed he cannot be considered one of the club's greatest players due to his lack of trophies, but Son told TNT Sports: “Let's say I'm a legend. Why not?”

“Just today! For 17 years no one has achieved this, so let's celebrate with amazing players, maybe legends of the club.

“This is what I always dreamed of. Today is the day it happened. I am the happiest man in the world.”

Spurs are currently 17th in the Premier League but the win has secured a place in the Champions League.

“If you look at the whole season, there will always be moments when it's not easy, but we as players have always supported each other,” Son explained.

“I felt the pressure. I wanted it so badly. I've been dreaming about this game every night for the last seven days. It's finally happened and now I can sleep peacefully!

“We can celebrate today, so let's make this day unforgettable, and maybe I'll miss my flight tomorrow!”
