RG Snyman delighted to be fit and ready to play for Leinster

Leinster second-row Snyman is delighted to be in good form for the start of the season as the team pursue trophies.

Four years on from their last triumph in 2021, Snyman signed All Black Jordie Barrett and Frenchman Rabah Slimani to help the province seek a fifth European Cup.

Moving from arch-rivals Munster to a new province, his stay was hampered by injury.

However, the World Cup winner is in excellent form and is ready to play a key role in the Leinster squad at a crucial stage of the season.

“It’s a great feeling to work every week, be available on weekends and be part of the team,” Snyman says.

“That's why I love playing rugby – being part of a team and getting out on the pitch every week.

“Honestly, I'm having a lot of fun and this season is bringing me joy. I just want to play. It's important to understand your role in the team and work towards a common goal.

“I know that when I go out there, whether I'm on the bench or in the starting lineup, I'm going to get enough playing time. I just want to be on the pitch.”

Snyman started for Leinster on Saturday as they captured the attention of Europe with a 62-0 thrashing of Harlequins at Croke Park.

Awaiting them at the Aviva Stadium on Friday night will be URC champions Glasgow, who know what it takes to win knockout matches against all odds.

If Leinster win, they will face the winners of Northampton or Casters at home, with a fourth successive final set to take place in Cardiff in May.

With Leinster top of the URC, Snyman says the team are in a good position.

Years of disappointment and loss have prevented the province from securing a fifth title, but the World Cup holders insist they cannot ignore the challenge Glasgow presents.

“We definitely talked about momentum before the game last weekend. I think the squad was a bit divided, the guys went to South Africa and did a good job there.

“The guys are recharging themselves with those who are left. We are definitely in a good position, but we still have a lot to do, and we know that.

“Glasgow are a strong team, they have a lot of players who can do their job and play really well. They train well too.

“This week we need to focus on preparation and prepare thoroughly for the weekend.”
