Man charged after allegedly attacking Jack Grealish at end of Manchester derby

A man has been arrested and charged after he allegedly assaulted Jack Grealish at the end of Sunday's Manchester derby at Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Mail, the Manchester City midfielder was heading towards the match tunnel when the alleged incident occurred, prompting a police investigation.

Both Manchester clubs declined to comment when contacted by the PA news agency, citing ongoing investigations, although United are understood to be co-operating with law enforcement agencies in the matter.

A statement from Greater Manchester Police said: “Alfie Holt, of Haven Drive, Droyslden, has been charged with assault. He will appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court in July.

“This charge relates to an incident that occurred yesterday at Old Trafford.”

Grealish came on as a substitute in the 74th minute of the goalless draw with United, and City missed out on a chance to return to the top four.

His teammate Phil Foden was confronted with vulgar chants directed at his mother by the crowd in the first half, prompting a sharp reaction from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola late in the match.

“Screaming at him? That's a lack of class. But it's not about United, it's about the people,” Guardiola said.
