Manchester city won the Premier League title with a shock defeat Manchester United West Brom on Sunday. Here’s how Kevin de Bruyne was the driving force behind their success…
“He can do everything on the field,” said PEP Guardiola. It was December and Manchester city coach said the sky sports expert Gary Neville about his most important player on the team: Kevin de bruyne. The Belgian was a brilliant start to the season, helping city to win 14 of his first 15 games of the Premier League from his new berth in Central midfield.
Move player with attacking qualities, de bruyne away from the cherished goal may seem illogical, but logic has become clear. De bruyne has provided four goals and nine assists at this point is more General than any of the Manchester city team.
But these figures – and they are much more that doesn’t show the full extent of its influence. In the middle of the field, along with David Silva before Fernandinho, de Bruyne has made all. He helped protect the defense of the city, and to engage again more alive than ever before- an average of more than 100 touches in 90 minutes and close to 80 passes.
Instead of depending on the service, de Bruyne now provides it. “The main thing that has changed is before I had to wait, but now I have more to create,” he said in the sky sports match of the zone earlier this season. “I was very lucky, because most goals come from his assists,” said Aguero in February. “For me, he’s a very special player,” added sane in the last month, “is an unbelievable player, how he plays, how he shoots and how he passes the ball. It’s really nice to see him.”
From defence-splitting to help the sane against Stoke which raced the ball to remove samples with Tottenham on Saturday, the season de Bruyne was littered with moments of genius. What is even more impressive, however, is its ability to conjure those moments when the city needs them.
There was a terrific winning goal Chelsea at Stamford bridge in September – one of the four goals he scored from outside the penalty area this season – and city’s form dipped just before Christmas, there were crucial assists for Silva and sterling in the final minutes of the match in a row against West ham and Southampton.
“From the point of view of mentality, he never hides,” added Guardiola in December. “The big players, you understand that in bad moments, bad moments in terms of 75 minutes, we lose, how you react in this situation. With the score 4: 0, each player of high class, it is important, when you are in the bad moments.”
De Bruyne has shown the durability to match its technical and psychological stability. The 26-year-old started all 33 of the city the Premier League so far, with Nicolas Otamendi’s only partner field played more minutes. Despite his new role, where he gets from one box to another, is perhaps the most physically demanding on the field.
Even in the grueling second half of the season, but de bruyne greenhouses with the same appetite. Between August and April, it is difficult to think of any bad performances in the League. “It’s not one match,” said Guardiola in February. “This whole season, every three days to play that way.”
Extraordinary goalscoring feats Mohamed Salah means he is now the favorite of the bookmakers for the PFA player of the year, but de bruyne will be the winner deserves. He was the heart of a team that can still finish the season with the most points and goals in the era of the Premier League. And he did it all along the way.
