Hugo Ekitikey's versatility at Liverpool could give Luis Diaz a back-up option

Liverpool's new signing Hugo Ekitiku's admission of his ambition to become a versatile striker could impact Luis Diaz's future.

According to PA news agency, Bayern have resumed talks with the Premier League champions after their initial offer of €67.5m was rejected 10 days ago.

Liverpool have confirmed they have no intention of letting go of the forward, who is also being sought by Barcelona, with Bayern's offer well below their own €100m valuation for the top international striker.

Diaz turns 29 in January and has two years left on his current contract, but has not yet received an extension offer.

However, Ekitikey's arrival in a £79m deal – coupled with Liverpool's ongoing interest in Alexander Isak, who has reportedly notified Newcastle of his desire to leave the club – could provide Dias with an exit option if the Bundesliga champions can make a proper offer.

“I do what the coach asks of me, but yes, I like to do everything,” Ekitiike said on the club's website.

“I can’t define myself solely as a striker (who likes) to finish attacks: I like to be involved in the game, I like to be involved in collective actions (and) create chances too.

“So I can do both – I can play alone and I also like to play with another striker and I think that’s what makes me versatile, but as you know in modern football you have to be adaptable.”

Ekitiike trained with his new teammates for the first time on Friday, joining them for pre-season training in Hong Kong less than 24 hours after signing for Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday.

The Frenchman has been impressed by the summer's transfer activity, with his arrival taking the total spending by the owners of Fenway Sports Group to almost £300m.

Florian Wirtz is the club's headline signing so far, but he has also been joined by Jeremie Frimpong and Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez
