Gianni Infantino Claims Cristiano Ronaldo Could Play at Club World Cup

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has revealed that “discussions are ongoing” over a transfer that could give Cristiano Ronaldo the opportunity to compete in this summer's Club World Cup.

Ronaldo's Al Nasr failed to qualify for the expanded tournament, which will feature 32 clubs for the first time, but Infantino appeared to be discussing a move for the 40-year-old Portuguese striker as he was due to take part in the event organised by the new governing body.

Speaking to YouTuber and streamer IShowSpeed, Infantino said: “Ronaldo could also play for one of the teams at the Club World Cup. Discussions are underway…

“Yes. Cristiano Ronaldo can play in the Club World Cup, yes. There are talks going on with several clubs, so if any club is interested in hiring Ronaldo for the Club World Cup… who knows, who knows.”

This summer, FIFA introduced an additional transfer window from June 1 to 10 to give clubs participating in the Club World Cup the opportunity to complete transfers before the tournament, which runs from June 14 to July 13 in the United States.

Five-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo signed for Al Nasr in 2022 after leaving Manchester United mid-season. His contract expires this summer, although he is reportedly close to agreeing a new deal with the club.
