The CEO of Rosatom, Alexei Likhachev, stated that a determination regarding a “period of calm” for the restoration of electricity transmission lines supplying the captured Zapadnaya NPP from the outside could be reached as early as tomorrow. According to his statement, the Director General of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, has taken on the role of intermediary, reports Korrespondent.

“It concerns the allocation of such a “time of quiet”, it must be sufficiently extended to enable the execution of work on both the “Dniprovska” and the “Ferrosplavna” line, the latter being under the authority of Ukraine's Armed Forces. This is a profoundly complex decision demanding careful consideration,” he remarked.

As per his account, the endeavor might span 6-7 days. The Ukrainian party has yet to issue a formal response concerning the potential for a cessation of hostilities in the ZNPP region.

As a reminder, the station's external electricity source was severed on September 23, following the disconnection of the high-voltage Dniprovska line. Moscow attributed this to Ukraine, while President Volodymyr Zelensky laid the responsibility on Russian bombardment. Grossi underscored that should all backup life-sustaining systems fail, there could be a  risk of atomic fuel disintegration. The Ukrainian head of state pointed out that Kyiv stands prepared for collaborative repairs of energy transmission routes, with the intention of reinstating electrical supply to the atomic power facility from all sides.

The ZNPP, the largest atomic energy station in Europe, has remained under Russian control since 2022. Although it has not been producing energy since then, it necessitates a steady power feed to keep the atomic fuel cooled.
