Today, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian President, conveyed that Kyiv possesses several advancements concerning the revival of discussions with Russia, which it aims to present to its allies. Consequently, he declared forthcoming conversations in Turkey for tomorrow, which media outlets suggest will be attended by Steve Witkoff, the US President’s special envoy.
Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian president, responded to the remarks made by the Ukrainian president. He underlined that the Russians would not be traveling to Istanbul, adding that should Witkoff or representatives from Ankara wish to update the Russian Federation on the negotiation’s progress, Vladimir Putin remains receptive to such information.
“There are no current plans for Putin to engage with Vitkoff, nor with emissaries from the Turkish side,” Peskov mentioned, further noting that while Moscow has not yet gained details from Kyiv about the resumption of discussions, the Russian Federation is prepared to engage.
To reiterate, yesterday, US President Donald Trump conveyed that he “approves” of the Senate’s proposed legislation to enact penalties against nations conducting business with Russia. However, the White House elucidated that he would endorse the document provided it explicitly confers upon him the authority to render the ultimate judgment on any punitive measures. Meanwhile, Peskov stated that Moscow denounces this venture and will diligently observe the particulars.
