US President Donald Trump harshly criticized the program “60 Minutes” shortly after CBS aired materials about Ukraine and Greenland.
He said the network was out of control and must “pay a significant price” for his harassment on Sunday.
“Almost every week on 60 Minutes… the name ‘TRUMP’ is mentioned in a derogatory and defamatory context, but this weekend’s ‘BROADCAST’ surpassed all previous ones,” the president wrote on his Truth Social platform.
He called on Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr to impose maximum fines and penalties “for their illegal and unlawful actions.”
There have been no comments from the network yet.
Mr Trump has filed a $20bn (£15bn) lawsuit against 60 Minutes over its editing of an interview with Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris last autumn.
The President claims the story was edited to make Ms. Harris look good, but the news program denies this.
However, reports continue to emerge that Mr Trump's lawyers and CBS's parent company are in talks about a possible settlement.
Mr. Carr and the Federal Communications Commission have launched a parallel investigation into CBS News in the same matter, one of several involving the company that also include ABC News, NBC, PBS, NPR and the Walt Disney Co.
Despite the lawsuits, 60 Minutes has continued to actively cover Mr. Trump's administration since he entered his second term, particularly through correspondent Scott Pelley.
He traveled to Ukraine to interview that country's president, Volodymyr Zelensky, amid a Russian attack earlier this month that killed nine children.
In an interview aired on Sunday, Mr Zelensky admitted to “100 percent” hatred of Russian President Vladimir Putin for invading Ukraine and invited Mr Trump to visit his country to see the aftermath.
Also on Sunday, correspondent Jon Wertheim reported from Greenland that some people there are expressing a desire for Mr. Trump to take control of the situation.
In a social media post, Mr Trump said 60 Minutes was no longer a news show but a “dishonest political operative simply disguised as 'news' and must be held accountable for its actions.”
