Amidst press accounts indicating a delay in the US-Russia summit in Budapest, Hungary’s premier, Viktor Orban, stated that arrangements for the encounter were still proceeding. He mentioned that Foreign Affairs Minister Peter Szijjarto is presently in Washington, as reported by Reuters.
“Szijjártó is in Washington. Arrangements for the peace summit are ongoing. The date remains undetermined. We will conduct it when the moment is right,” Orbán commented.
The previous week, Trump revealed intentions to meet with Putin shortly in Hungary. Nevertheless, news outlets reported yesterday that preparations for the conference had been suspended because of Moscow’s unwillingness to promptly consent to a truce in Ukraine. Trump himself expressed his reluctance for a “pointless encounter” yet added that the circumstances might shift and that “we will update you in the coming days.”
