Comey says everyone – himself included – thought Clinton would win 2016 election

Komi said the chief anchor of ABC news George Stephanopoulos that he believes that former President Barack Obama, the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, and even trump, the Republican nominee thought Clinton would win too.

“I was surprised that Donald trump was elected President, and I think most … maybe Donald trump too, but since there were a lot of people,” said Komi.

Komi, which promotes his book “High fidelity: truth, lies and leadership”, – gave the example of his Association with Obama, which led him to believe that they were on the same page.

“I heard that the President [Obama] said, as I tell in the book, ‘Putin has bet on the wrong horse.’ That is, we all acted in a world where opinion polls showed that Donald trump had no chance,” said Komi.

Obama’s remark was made in regards to when and if the intelligence community and the White house should disclose their conclusions about Russia’s intervention in the elections.

“I think the President meant that the Russian effort is wasted, and so why should we help them, declaring that they do when their work is not going to achieve your goal?” Said komei.

Stephanopoulos pointed to the line of thinking that this ad wanted to give people a reason to question the outcome of the election.

“Right,” said Komi. “Donald trump said, if I lose, it means that the system is configured.’ So, if the Obama administration coming out saying, ‘the Russians are trying to help elect Donald trump, that goes to his narrative now, see, I told you that the whole system is fixed and You can’t trust the American democratic process. And the Russians to achieve their goals.”

Ahead of the elections, Komei was around the Clinton supporters in his own house, saying that in addition to his wife, Patrice“, at least my four daughters, probably all five of my children, I wanted Hillary Clinton become the first female President.”

“There was a Lotta passion in this house for Hillary Clinton. And … I understand that. But then again, I hope it shows people that I don’t make decisions based on a political career,” he said, referring to criticism from Democrats that his public statements, and then Director of the Federal Bureau of investigation FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton’s mail processing could cost the election.

Roots said in a speech on Capitol hill in 2016, that he was a registered Republican most of my adult life, but not anymore. He told Stephanopoulos he did not vote in the elections later that year.

“I’m the Director of the FBI,” he said during the appearance on Capitol hill. “I try to be apolitical, so I deliberately tried not to follow her big. And that I should not have to choose between the candidates. I’m trying to lead the institution, which should be individual and others.”

His assumption about the victory of Clinton, may have influenced his actions

The roots said, some of his actions related to the e-mail investigation “must be” under the influence, though not consciously, his assumption that she was going to win the election.

“I don’t remember consciously thinking about it, but he must have, because I worked in a world where Hillary Clinton is going to beat Donald trump. And so I’m sure it was a factor. As I said, I don’t remember that I said it out loud, but it was. She was going to be elected President, and if I hide it from the American people, it will be illegitimate the moment she chose the moment when it comes out,” said Stephanopoulos.

Still, the roots said the same thinking not apply to its decision to keep secret for several months after the election, the fact that the FBI is investigating the interaction between the “small number of Americans” from the trump campaign and Russians.

And he said that the decision was not easy.

“It was really not difficult to call, given the specificity of the question and that she continues. We didn’t want the tip,” he said.

“In connection with the decision of U.S. President Barack Obama about how to talk about the Russian intervention with the American people… he obviously thought, ‘I don’t want, given that trump will lose … look at how I put my finger on the scale,’” said Komi.

That Komei wants to say Clinton

In his book, Clinton said that she “felt like I’d stabbed” by Komi “three times in the last five months of the action”.

When Stephanopoulos asked Komei, how he would react to the statement by Clinton that she will be President if not for Oct. 28 issue of the letter in which he announced that the FBI will review more letters, this time from former Rep. Anthony Weiner computer, Komi said, “I hope not”.

“But the honest answer is not to change the way I think about it,” he added.

For people like Clinton, who argue that there is a double standard with Komi revelations he uncovered a large amount of information about the investigation into the Clinton letter, but did not immediately release information about the probe in some members of the trump team and their alleged contacts with the Russians-he believes that differences in behavior arise from differences in the cases.

“The case of Clinton email … was open, and we are actually investigating the very candidate; and investigations, counterintelligence trying to figure out whether a small group of people, not Donald trump … we did not investigate Donald trump,” he said.

“I get the initial reaction. It seems inconsistent,” Komi recognized. “But if You take your time and look at the posture of these two cases, they are very, very different. And in fact, illustrate the rule that we are following”.
