The German Embassy in Ukraine has released information about the end of the term of Ambassador Martin Jaeger in Ukraine:

“Martin Jaeger is completing his mission as German Ambassador to Ukraine. Two years in an extremely difficult time for Ukraine. Martin Jaeger will soon head the German Federal Intelligence Service.”

Martin Jaeger, who also announced that he was leaving his post, addressed Ukrainians on the eve of the end of his term. This address was published by the German Embassy on the X network on September 5.

“After two intense and eventful years, my time as German Ambassador to Ukraine is coming to an end today. It has been an honor for me to represent my country here in Ukraine at this special time. We have experienced many events, both good and bad. Pain and fear, which I have learned from you, can be overcome through hope and friendship… Ukraine has deeply impressed me with its people, their courage, determination and unwavering faith in a good future… I want to thank everyone who has been with me on this path… All the best. Take care of yourself. Germany stands firmly by your side,” he said in a video message recorded against the backdrop of St. Michael's Cathedral in Kyiv. “Friends stand shoulder to shoulder,” he added in Ukrainian.

As a reminder, it was previously announced that diplomat Heiko Thoms will become the new German ambassador to Ukraine, reports the German edition of Politico. The former Secretary of State for Finance will replace Martin Jaeger in this position, who will instead head the Federal Intelligence Service.

Before the change of government this year, Thoms served as State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance. As ambassador to Kyiv, he will replace Martin Jaeger, who will become the new head of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND).
