Greetings from The Logoff: The initiatives by President Donald Trump’s organization to prosecute his political adversaries are faltering — while simultaneously growing.
What just took place? This Monday, a jurist in Virginia’s Eastern District threw out legal actions against former FBI Head James Comey and New York State Attorney General Letitia James after determining that Lindsey Halligan, the legal representative who initiated the cases, was unlawfully designated as acting US legal counsel.
Independently, the Department of Defense shared Monday that they were commencing an inquiry into Democratic Senator Mark Kelly, a former Navy captain, due to his presence in a recent video reminding American service personnel that they reserve the option to decline illegitimate directives.
How significant is Halligan’s disqualification? Comey, accused of making false statements to Congress and obstructing congressional proceedings, along with James, accused of fiscal institution fraud, were both prominently featured on Trump’s roster of adversaries; in September, he openly sought their legal prosecution from Attorney General Pam Bondi through a Truth Social post, stating:
What about Comey, Adam ‘Shifty’ Schiff, Leticia???…We can’t delay any longer, it’s killing our reputation and credibility.
Though not necessarily concluding either situation, this Monday’s rejections may well embody an insurmountable problem; Trump had previously struggled to locate a lawyer consenting to bring about the allegations, culminating in Halligan’s involvement.

What developments surround Kelly? Unlike Comey and James, who were charged with felony offenses, Kelly potentially faces a military tribunal under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, a system separate from the US criminal justice framework. It is not clear whether the investigation will advance to that point, but merely announcing it, based on an exceedingly fragile justification, marks a substantial action by the Trump government.
What constitutes the overarching view? To date, the principle of law is largely standing firm against Trump’s endeavors to command political indictments. However, the administration has numerous resources available to persist in trying, and clearly intends to.
