In the wake of student demonstrations against Israel’s devastation of Gaza that have swept across colleges this year, some institutions of higher education have decided to cancel or amend their graduation ceremonies. For the cover of the May 20, 2024, issue, the cartoonist Barry Blitt depicts the graduates—and the police who have been called in to stop the protests and dismantle encampments.
