“Mickey 17”
This is a new science fiction film from director Bong Joon-ho, known for the Oscar-winning drama Parasite and the cult Korean detective film Memoirs of a Murderer.
The plot of “Mickey 17” unfolds in the distant future, in which humanity is developing outer space. The price of life in this world is only a matter of a backup copy of a single individual. Mickey Barnes, a member of an expedition to the harsh planet Niflheim, plays the role of “expendable material” – a person who can easily be completely replaced by a clone. After each death, his memory is downloaded into a similar body, and he again sets off to meet dangers. However, one day everything does not go according to plan: two versions of Mickey remain on the planet at once.
“Companion”
In the film “The Companion,” the characters Iris and Josh go on a weekend trip to a country house by the lake, where a group of friends are waiting for them. At first glance, the atmosphere of a cozy vacation seems carefree. However, soon the harmless trip turns into a series of confusing events in which Iris will have to find out who really surrounded her all this time.
“Gorge”
Levi and Drasa are snipers who have been given a rather unusual assignment. They must patrol the borders of a mysterious gorge, completely cut off from the world, for a year. Their posts are located on opposite sides of the abyss, any communication is prohibited, and the essence of the threat lurking below their towers is kept secret. However, despite all the prohibitions, loneliness and constant danger bring them closer together.
The film stars Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy, and was directed by Scott Derrickson, who is responsible for the Sinister series and the first Doctor Strange film.
“Revelation”
“Revelation” is another South Korean detective thriller that deserves attention this year. The plot follows a pastor who lives a secluded life in a village and believes that punishment of criminals is God’s will, and a detective who is haunted by visions of the dead, who are forced to search for answers to their questions together to find out if divine revelation really plays a role in human life.
“Electric State”
A new adventure drama starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt, The Electric State is set in an alternate 1990s America where the world has changed after the rise of machines, war, and the advent of technology that allows people to exist simultaneously in both reality and virtual space.
The main character, Michelle, is a young girl who has lost her family. When a robot appears in her house, suspiciously resembling her favorite childhood character, she suddenly realizes that it is a message from someone who left her long ago. Thus begins a journey that will take Michelle to the most dangerous point in the country – the exclusion zone, where fugitive robots are hiding.
“Opus”
Those who like to tickle their nerves will find the new horror film “Opus” useful.
The story begins with the triumphant return of Alfredo Moretti, a legendary pop star. A private party is held to mark the occasion, where six guests meet: journalists, media personalities and influencers. However, they do not yet know what awaits them behind the closed doors of the elite mansion.
“Operation Black Case”
The spy thriller starring Cate Blanchett will appeal to fans of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.”
The story revolves around the top-secret Severus program. Information has been leaked, and now the main character, George Woodhouse, has only one week to track down the traitor. Things get complicated when his own wife falls under suspicion.
In a desperate attempt to uncover the plot, Woodhouse lures his fellow spies into a dangerous game of trying to uncover the identity of the traitor. As he tracks down the “mole,” it becomes clear that an even more sinister plan lurks in the shadows, threatening not only himself but the entire world.
“Monkey”
A spooky comedy horror film about how some things can't be left in the past. An old toy – a wind-up monkey, innocently banging on drums – ends up in the hands of children. However, each of its blows triggers a chain of events that turn into truly deadly accidents. Years pass, the former boys become men, but the curse that fell on them does not disappear. And now, when terrible events begin to haunt their families again, they will have to find out: who is really controlling the monkey and whether there is at least a chance to stop it.
“The collapse of the world”
What would happen if a global threat only affected the richest? The creators of the film “The End of the World” are looking for an answer to this question.
According to the plot, a mysterious disease first strikes billionaires, then multimillionaires, and then everyone whose fortune exceeds a critical mark. The more money, the higher the risk of death. In a panic, representatives of the elite begin to give away assets for next to nothing, trying to get rid of such dangerous wealth.
The main character of the picture, Laura, is an ambitious careerist who suddenly receives a huge inheritance. Now she finds herself among those doomed to a “golden” death, but the girl is not going to give up without a fight. She intends to find out who is behind the global catastrophe and whether there is a possibility of avoiding the final judgment for the sake of high wealth.
