I received a letter saying they want to transfer me a million dollars.

I received a letter. They say they are going to invest money in our country and want to send a million dollars to my account, Ukr.Media reports.

The investment is certainly good, I wouldn't refuse such a transfer. But I don't believe in magicians and investors who are looking for where to invest money with the help of spam.

I wonder if there are any who believe?

Winning in the online lottery

One day, an acquaintance shared some good news with me. He said that he had won an online lottery and was due a big prize, but to get it he needed to pay taxes.

He was notified of his win by email. It wasn't he who won, but his email address. He corresponded with the lottery organizers, and they said they were ready to pay him the prize, but first he had to pay the tax.

He even showed me a printout of the letters.

I immediately typed the first sentence from the first letter into a search engine, and the very first link pointed to an article that said it was a scam.

I explained to my friend that after the “taxes” were transferred, there would be “commissions” and then some other unforeseen expenses – they would charge him money for as long as he was willing to pay.

He was grateful, even though he looked disappointed. He probably subconsciously considered me the person who had destroyed his dreams.

Such letters are still being sent.

It's strange, but such letters are still sent. So I received such a letter, and there are many other variations.

Sometimes the lawyers of some disgraced dictator are looking for someone who will help take money out of the country, sometimes businessmen are looking for a representative “in your country”…

It seems that no one should respond to such emails these days. And I'm sure that most of these emails are successfully destroyed by spam filters, and almost all recipients ignore them.

If ten years ago (and these letters appeared in the early 2000s, if not earlier), to make a transfer you had to go to the bank, now there are many ways to give your money to scammers without getting up from the couch. You can transfer money from card to card or using various payment systems. Even the good old Western Union transfer can be issued without a visit to the bank – right on the website.

In general, if earlier those who wanted to make a transfer could be stopped, for example, at a bank, now almost no one stops gullible dreamers.
